Theme not displaying correctlyb on Windows 7

Hello, sorry to have so many questions, but I do have 6 blogs. Anyway… I’m using Ari on 3 blogs. It’s displaying just fine on my home computer with Vista using Firefox and Chrome. And it’s displaying just fine at work on the Macs with Safari and on the Macs with Firefox.

But on my work computer, a PC running Windows 7 with Firefox and Chrome, Ari is displaying everything WAY too large!! The widgets are so big on the left navbar that I can only fit a small tag cloud, search bar, and a scroll down archives. My scrolling blogroll won’t fit, and the follow button is off the page at the bottom.

SemPress has the same problem with huge type.

    Manifest seems ok.

I’ve done quite a lot of CSS work. So I was using Firebug to try to fix Ari but I’m stumped. I got a few things under control but I can’t shrink it all down. Even if I change my browser (and I did check to make sure the zoom was reset, my readers aren’t going to do such things.

Can you give me any ideas? I really like Ari, but want it to work on Windows 7 of course.

    Thanks!!

  • Hi there,

Since the problem is limited to a specific computer, the issue is most likely due to some settings on that computer, or in your browser on that computer.

Could you check to make sure your browser is not zoomed in? You can do so by holding Ctrl + 0 (zero) to reset the zoom level.

In Firefox, you’ll also want to check the default zoom level and font size as explained here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/font-size-and-zoom-increase-size-of-web-pages

Let me know if it helps.

I have set the zoom on 100% Ctrl 0 on Firefox 27.0.1 on this PC running Windows 7. It didn’t change anything in Firefox. For example, on my blog SYLPHISH DREAMS which uses SemPress theme, the title of my blog is 9″ wide!! Gigantic!! Way too big… and everything else is pretty big, too.

But, in IE 11, it’s 6″ wide, and that’s also set to 100%. Much more realistic. Looks pretty sweet, actually!! It’s a similar issue with the Ari theme…

But the scaling difference is not as pronounced on the Ari theme… it’s still noticeably bigger on Firefox on Windows 7.

    Thanks,
    Robert Terrell

  • Could you check if the font size is correct in your system settings, as explained here:

    Thanks!

You were right jeherve. It was set to 150%. Maybe our tech guy set it that way when my computer was set up, or I did and forgot about it! DOH!!!

But this is much more troubling. When I type in wordpress.com I am logged in automatically, I don’t have to go through the two-part process, with the number being transmitted to my phone. I rebooted the computer to see what that did, and it still logged me on without me entering my username, password or text number being transmitted. Perhaps the system remembers what computer I’m on, but it still seems dangerous. This is my work computer.

You may have checked “Stay signed in” last time you logged in. Try logging out and clearing your browser cache; that should log you out properly.
Once you’ve done so, you’ll want to avoid checking “Stay signed in” on public computers to avoid any issues.

    I hope this helps.
