Theme not publishing (or previewing) with all theme details

When choosing a new theme, the theme does not display in the preview or published as it does in the theme details, nor does the preview and/or published versions have many of the features listed in the same theme details.
Take, specifically, Sight (by WPShower). The theme details show a slidebar, which is also included in the description. However, when I preview or publish with this theme, this format is not used, and instead I only acquire Sight’s color palette, none of its features. While in preview mode, I can find no option to adjust this appearance.

I wonder if I have to perhaps purchase these select features and that is why they are not showing? If such is the case, how would I go about purchasing these features (i.e. the slidebar)?

    Thanks.

    Hi there!

Nope – no additional purchase required. When you purchase a theme like Sight, all features are included to make your site look just like the site demo. In the slider instance, that will not appear by default. In order for the slider to appear, you will need to mark a few posts (up to 30) as sticky. The process for getting the slider set-up is described in the theme instructions here:

If you have any additional questions regarding the Sight theme (or any other theme), feel free to pass them along. I’m happy to help you get your site looking how you would like!

Okay, but there’s no option to buy it. It tells me it’s free. Yet the free version still doesn’t look like the one I am shown when I preview or publish. I can’t adjust my background or colors either, for example. I can in the preview section, but if I publish, these changes aren’t actually shown on the website.

I also tried activating the theme and marking a few posts as “stickys”. This did nothing, I still see no slide bar.

Ok I have the slider working. I am trying to get the tabs working now. I did not see this info page before, thank you for passing that along, it is greatly helpful.

To change my background color and text colors, do I need to buy an upgrade?

Additionally, is there a way to get a post to appear in the main list AND in the top slider? If I mark a post as a sticky with a featured image, it goes in the main slider, but then I lose it in the main list of articles.

    Hi there!

    Please see my answers below:

To change my background color and text colors, do I need to buy an upgrade?

If you would like to upload a custom background, you can do that through the instructions found here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-backgrounds/

However, if you’re looking to change text colors, background colors, and upload custom CSS, you may want to look into the Custom Design upgrade.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

That upgrade gives you full control over the look and feel of your site.

Additionally, is there a way to get a post to appear in the main list AND in the top slider? If I mark a post as a sticky with a featured image, it goes in the main slider, but then I lose it in the main list of articles.

Currently, this is not possible. When a post is marked as “sticky”, it will appear in the slider. However, in order for the post to appear in the feed, you will need to remove the sticky tag. The best way to do this would be to use the Quick Edit feature as described here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/#quick-edit

This way, you could “unsticky” a post when you post a new one so you have your five (or however many you want) new posts in the slider and everything else in the feed. Would that work?
