theme page

I’m trying to access the themes page and I keep getting the same page and the edit button doesn’t work on any of the pages. It’s as if someone doesn’t want me to create a website.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. This could be a browser issue. Please make sure you are using one of the browsers and versions listed here: http://browsehappy.com/

Additionally, try clearing your browser cache and cookies and make sure you have third-party cookies enabled. You can also check whether you have the same problem on a different browser.

It might also be a good idea to make sure your flash player is updated:

Also reset your modem/router in case a connection problem is causing your site to not load completely.

I just did everything you told me to do and it’s still not working. It seemed fine, then as I was working, one theme would shut down, then when I went to another, it worked and then 2 minutes later it went down. When I came back 5 minutes later, I got one page with dark clouds on it. Everytime I try and access a theme page I get the same page. And none of the edit buttons work. Seems like someone at the company doesn’t want me to have a page. Can I talk to the supervisor?

  • Unknown's avatar

I too am trying to find a supervisor or customer service number and am outta luck. U find anything?

  • Unknown's avatar

not yet. I got an earlier response. I just posted this 15 minutes ago so I’m going to give them some time. Goodlluck to both of us!

  • @smithsender
There’s no customer service number, only this support forum. Are you having the same problem as @lindaleilanibrown? If not, please start a new thread, describing what you need help with and including your blog URL, here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

If you say the theme page, do you mean Appearance ->Themes in your dashboard or the theme gallery at http://wordpress.com/themes/ ?

When I view your blog it appears fine. It currently has the Lovebirds theme. If you could possibly post a screenshot of what you see (“page with dark clouds”) it might help. You can upload the screenshot to your media library and then post the link here.

When you speak of edit buttons, can you please specify which these are. Specifically, edit links on the dashboard like on the All Posts page, the edit buttons on the blog itself or somewhere else.

Also let us know exactly which browser and version you’re using: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/

I’m on my way to bed as it’s nearing midnight where I am, but I’m tagging this for staff to follow up. Please provide all the information I asked for here and then be patient while waiting for their response, keeping in mind it’s weekend so it might take a while. Also, after providing that information, try not to post again until staff responds as these threads are handled by them based on timestamps, so every extra post you make moves your thread to the back of the queue. I promise you once tagged they will get to you, so please be patient.

I just opened up a new blog to see if that might change the situation but it didn’t. I opened up LoseWeightEveryday1 wordpress.com and it’s still not working. When I access the theme page, the dark clouds picture is still there. The edit button on the the theme page that lets you edit the page. It’s not working so I can’t take a picture of the page to show you. Access LoseWeightEveryday1 and see if you can access a theme page? You’ll see what I get. Thanks for all your help.

    Hi lindaleilanibrown,

Can you make a screenshot of what you see? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

That will help me understand exactly what page you’re looking at and what you’re seeing there.

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t access the edit page or anything. Nothing works on the page. Just a still picture of the dark clouds. Can’t you see it on your end?

  • Unknown's avatar

I made a screenshot of the page. It’s not posting here. The paste feature isn’t working. Do you have an email address where I can send it to? That might be easier. Thanks so much.

  • Unknown's avatar

I posted the picture in in the media new. You can go there and see the picture. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I’m using Chrome. And I did all the steps you require. Did you go to my media and see the picture that’s posted? I think someone at your company has it out for me and doesn’t want me to put up a blog. What do you think?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi lindaleilanibrown,

We definitely want you to be able to set up and use your blog. :) Let me see if I can explain what’s going on here:

The screenshot you uploaded shows your site’s Customizer, which is used to customize your site and theme’s appearance. You can read more about it here: Customizer

Right now, you’re using the Customizer to preview our Custom Design feature. To save any changes you’ve made in the Customizer you’ll need to either purchase or exit the Custom Design preview.

You can do that by opening the “Colors” section in the Customizer. In the yellow banner at the top, you can choose “Purchase to make it live” or “exit the preview.” Then, you can click the Save button at the bottom to save your changes.

To make changes to individual posts or pages on your site, you don’t need the Customizer. You can create and edit posts and pages from your My Sites page. Under your site’s title there, you can click on “Posts” to create or edit blog posts or click on “Pages” to create or edit pages.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

The picture I uploaded to you comes up on every theme I try and access. It’s the same picture. Why is that? Are you telling me I need to upgrade in order to use any theme and create a blog? I thought wordpress was free and we get up to five blogs. I know you can access my blog and see the edit button isn’t working. I can’t change the theme of my blog. What’s going on with your site?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

The picture you’re seeing is a featured image on your published page, which is why it shows up no matter what theme you’re using. You can change or remove that image by editing the page. We have more about featured images here: Featured Images

Are you telling me I need to upgrade in order to use any theme and create a blog? I thought wordpress was free and we get up to five blogs.

No, you don’t need to upgrade. However, you won’t be able to save the changes you’ve made in the Customizer until you either purchase the Custom Design upgrade or exist the Custom Design preview (without purchasing it). I can help you exit the preview if you know you don’t want that upgrade.

You can continue using WordPress.com for free, and you’re welcome to create as many blogs as you’d like. (You’re not limited to just five blogs.)

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
