This is my 1st.blog & 1st. time using word press.I’m using the 2012 theme, what I want to do is use the theme picture as a static homepage that you see on my blog when you arrive there.
Is there any way to do this? every time I go to my blog all I see is the dashboard or the post. Any help would be appreciatedThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to the detailed theme description page at this link http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/ Then scroll down to “Front Page Template” and follow the instructions provided.

When I did this, when I tried to select home then blog, all it shows is about. Will not let me change.
When it says choose page you created is there a step I’m missing?
The 2012 picture of a wheat field is what I’m trying to use as homepage.
Please forgive me I’m totally new to this and confused at this point. -
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, and know that static front pages are traffic killers, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Ok,I didn’t know that having a static 1st.page was not a good idea
But how do I ever see the picture of the wheat field as displayed on the 2014 theme.I’m curious to see what it looks like on my blog but have yet to see it.
Could I have that picture show as home page that people see first & have the posts listed on it ? -
My personal opinion is that static pages are traffic killers but others may disagree with me. The image will not appear unless or until you upload it and embed it in the page.

For Twenty Twelve the suggested header image dimensions are 960 by 250 (width, height). However, both are flexible so you can upload a smaller cropped image if you wish. The width is limited to 2000.

The “wheat field” image is here https://twentytwelvedemo.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/wheat-field.jpg?w=624. The dimensions are 624px × 416px. You can capture that image, upload it and set it as a featured image.
