  I want to purchase a premium theme – do I have to pay an annual renewal fee to keep the site running?

  There is no recurring fee for a premium theme.

  Keeping your site up and running may involve an annual fee, though, depending on which plan you choose. If you go with the free WordPress.com plan, there is no additional cost. With the Personal, Premium, and Business plans, you get additional features and pay a recurring fee each year to have them.
