Theme recommendation for "semi-static" website
-
I want to redesign my blog as a full-blown website — nothing terribly fancy but a little nicer-looking than it is now, and with ongoing blog posts continuing to run through the center of it. Any thoughts on the best themes to use for this concept?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please provide an active link to the blog in question starting with http://
The site linked to your name can be replaced by a link to the blog. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes. Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

There is a Themes Showcase here > http://theme.wordpress.com/ and it’s a live demo site. There you will find a searchbox with feature filters. Any theme with a horizontal menu is most suitable for creating a website appearance. Staff have provided help for those who want to structure their blog like a website. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that here is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.
A custom menu allows you to display Categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages and custom links in your custom menu as well.
These are the how-to instructions:

Thanks. Please link it to your username using the instructions I posted so we Volunteers aren’t wasting our time clicking your username and arriving on a site that’s not a WordPress.com blog site. You will be able to use the filter features in the Themes Showcase to locate a theme that best suits you. :)

My “blog” is also a “semi-static” site. I spent hours (really) on the dashboard under Appearance -> Themes looking at themes and previewing them, which is a GREAT feature by the way, before I found one I liked.
Most themes have a lot of customization that can be done, too, so sort of keep that in the back of your mind when you’re looking at previews. The preview just shows you the “out of the box” look, which you’ll only have showing until you begin the tweaking process.

Personally, I like Coraline for static webpages, since it is one of the themes that allows you to specify no sidebars (full-width) on a page-by-page basis. There are many other themes that work, though, and really, any of them could be used, depending on what you want the look-and-feel to be like. All wordpress.com blogs can be set up to use static pages, and I think that most, if not all by now, can have custom menus. “Showcase” type themes would also be well-suited, I think.
Although you can set a static frontpage, having a dynamic one with regular posts (even if they’re just weekly or monthly) makes the site seem fresher, especially for returning visitors.

if you are looking for a theme on which the sidebar is optional then see > No widgets on static pages or single posts (optionally or not): http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/widgets-on-pages-or-single-posts/
