theme requirements

    Hello all,

I want to purchase the Appetite Theme and then host the website on one.com.
I asked if it possible to use this theme, and they said it has to meet this specs:
    http://one-docs.com/specs

Well, i can’t find any specs of the theme. They tell me to ask the developer of the theme, but i can’t seem to find that info anywhere as well.

Someone maybe knows if this theme meets the specs?
    Thnx

  • Hi there. You can’t use a theme bought on WordPress.com anywhere else. If you buy it here it can only be used here.

You can contact the theme designer directly to find out if there is a self-hosted version of that theme available. This is the link to the theme designer’s site from the Appetite support page: http://tdwp.us/

    Oh well, that sucks..

Well, the thing is, wordpress doesn’t allow me to make .nl domains.

I was wondering if i could only make a domain somewhere else and just keep using wordpress.com by linking the domain, but I’m afraid that after it get linked it still will show links like http://myname.wordpress.com/home
    or /contact /media or whatever

At least thats how I understood it after looking up that

Also, one.com does allow wordpress to be installed so does that make a difference or not?

You can’t buy a .nl domain here, but you can still use it here. It’s called domain mapping, and the end result is exactly the same as if you’d bought the domain here, i.e. “wordpress” will no longer appear in your URL if you view the site in a browser. The only difference from buying the domain here is you’ll need to pay two places for your domain each year: Your registrar for the domain itself, and WordPress.com for the mapping. See here for more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Also, one.com does allow wordpress to be installed so does that make a difference or not?

There are two versions of WordPress: This is WordPress.com. On one.com you’d be using the self-hosted version called WordPress.org. While they look similar, they work completely differently, and one very big difference in this case is that their themes are not interchangeable. See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Let me know if you have any more questions about that.

Thanks for your answer, the links provided me some more information!

I’m still wondering about the domain mapping.
Let’s say I just use wordpress.com and purchase the theme, and do all the work for the website from wordpress.com

Then I’ll purchase a .nl domain name somewhere and use a DNS/redirect to wordpress and just map the domain like you said.

Does this mean that when people visit the site the only thing they’ll see is http://www.mynameofwebsite.nl or will they see .nl/home, .nl/contact, .nl/otherthings as well?

Because if they’ll see that as well I think the solution is easy and just use wordpress.com and map the domain to an external domain right?

    Thanks for your time!!

The basic link structure will stay the same. Pages will have a link structure of site.nl/page_slug and posts will have a link structure of site.nl/date/post_slug. In other words, your links will look exactly the same except that every instance of denachtwachter.wordpress.com will be replaced with site.nl

Your dashboard will still show the WordPress.com address, but search engines will index the .nl address and that’s also what visitors will see in their browsers.
