theme Scratchpad

  I am using Scratchpad for the blog theme but suddenly all the calendar (this is important because visitors can visit older posts ), contact us widgets are all gone . I did not remove them (don’t have that option anyway). This happens after wordpress.com sends me an on screen message saying they just upgraded something . Why do they always do updates only to make things not working? I am saying in general for tech site.
