Theme showing multiple articles

    Hi,

Sorry if the thread topic is slightly misleading, but I am try to find a way or a new theme (paid or free) that will enable me to have multiple articles showing on my home page with a ‘read more’ added to the bottom. In other words, I could have the previous 10 or so articles (about 5-10 lines from each one) showing. Basically I’m looking for something like the way the latest articles show on the main page of http://www.howtogeek.com/ or http://gizmodo.com/ (when viewed in blog view)
I don’t mind having to pay for a Premium theme. I am currently using the TwentyTen theme.

    Hope that makes sense?

    Regards,

    Richard

Many themes show an excerpt on the front page of the site. Try searching for “magazine” in the feature filters of the Theme Showcase. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/

Otherwise, if your theme supports using Excerpts you can create a short teaser in place of the post text on the front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/

Lastly, you can use the “More” tag to abbreviate your posts on the front page of your site. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

    Hi justjennifer,

Thank you for your reply. I have now gone through all of my articles to include the ‘More’ function. Took a while, but the main page is getting there now.

Is there also a way to exclude the Tags that I have added to each article from showing as well? I have tried Settings>Reading>Enhanced Feeds, and un-checking ‘Tags & Categories’ but they are still showing even on newer posts.

Also, is there a way to include thumbnail image to each post (Featured Image doesn’t show) instead of making sure that I have an image at the top of each article and then adding the ‘More’ function just below that image which will make it show in the new look main page.

    Sorry for the multiple questions.

The setting you refer to means that your RSS feeds will not show the tags and categories when viewed in a Feed Reader, but has nothing to do with their display on your blog posts. It is not possible to hide the categories and tags in posts on Twenty Ten without the Custom Design upgrade and a working knowledge of CSS.

You can certainly insert a thumbnail image at the start of any post, regardless of whether it is a featured image or not, together with the “More” tag. In that way all articles will look somewhat like the “Gallery” post format already does on the front page of Twenty Ten.

And it looks like WordPress.com has just introduced a theme much like what you were wanting to do. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/01/12/new-theme-fresh-clean/
