Theme Sight: problem with the mobile version
-
Hi!
I have the blog goingraaw.wordpress.com with the Sight Theme. The blog has looked the same on the computer as on the mobile (because I disabled the mobile version). A few days ago though the way the blog looked on the mobile changed even though the mobile version is still disabled. Can anyone please help me, I want the blog to look the same on the mobile as on the computer. What should I do?
Thank you for your help!
Best regards

The mobile theme that you disabled is a completely different theme from the Sight theme on your blog. Are you clear on that? There is no way to do what you suggest that I am aware of. It’s a one or the other choice.
A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.
When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme. Go to > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme like you have done.
To see how your theme displays on different devices see here http://www.responsinator.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgoingraaw.wordpress.com%2F

P.S. If this is a CSS editing question you need to use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can copy and paste your text into a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need.

Hi!
Thanks for your answer!
Yes I’m aware of that the mobile version is a different theme from the sight theme. But it’s so strange. The blog looked the same on the mobile as on the computer version just a week ago, I didn’t do any changes. I disabled the mobile version 8 months ago and I havn’t done any changes since then, it’s still disabled.
But how come it looks so strange on the mobile now, even though the mobile version is disabled? Shouldn’t it look the same as on a computer screen (as Sight is a responsive theme?).
Thank you!

Hi Maria,
I am on a desktop. I have the Sight theme here http://thistimethisspace.com/and the mobile theme id disabled that site. Do you see any difference in the display on your blog and mine?If you do see a differences and specifically if you see a difference on the live demo site which is the template for all wp.com blogs wearing the Sight theme then type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Hi!
Yours and mine looks the same on the computer as on the mobile. But how does your mobile version looks on your phone? It does not look exacly the same as on the computer right?
Well, if I tell you how I want mine to be. I want my mobile version to be a miniature of the computer version (so that the text and picture is in the exactly same place). My blog looked like that a week ago, and I don’t know what have changed. I have not changed any settings and the mobile version is still disabled.
Do you think it’s possible to get it back the way it was? (A miniature of the computer version). If you want me to, I can send you a picture of how I want it to look like.Thank you!!

For an example, look at rafrisk.se or rafrisk.wordpress.com (she has the sight theme as well) in your phone. Thats how I want my blog to look like when the mobile version is disabled and that’s how my blog looked like a week ago.

I thought I’d crack you up. lol :D Truth be told I’m a savvy silver who has been online since the interweb was created. I became addicted to being online and now I’m weaning myself off of being online.
Themes Staff will be happy to assist you and answer your questions after the weekend, not to worry. :)

Hi @goingrawmaria , the other person is running an older version of Sight. The version of Sight that we run on WordPress.com has been updated so that it’s mobile-friendly.
This helps your visitors so they don’t have to pinch & zoom to read your page, and it can also improve your search engine rankings, since Google gives preference to mobile friendly sites.

Hi @suprnovia!
Thank you for your answer.
I really, really want my website to look the way it looked before on the mobile. Is it anything you or me can do to change that? Does it matter if I have a premium account?
Can I otherwise change the code for my site to look the same as it did before?I really appreciate your help, thank you!

Maria, because we keep the themes updated for you here, the only way to revert to an older version is to install your own copy of WordPress, install an old version of the theme, and keep your theme out of date — which isn’t really advisable from a security and performance standpoint.
Plus you’d get worse search engine rankings, and people would have a hard time using your site on a phone — while the look of the full site on a phone might seem nice, it’s difficult to use. And running your own copy is more work.
But if you still want to go that route, you can find details about installing your own copy of WordPress at get.wp.com .

Hi supernovia,
I am exactly in the opposite situation than Maria. I have my own copy of wordpress with the Sight theme installed, and of course it’s not responsive. And I want it to be responsive as the Sight theme in wordpress.com (http://sightdemo.wordpress.com/).
How did you do that ? Did you modified the theme yourself ? Or used an extension ?Thank you for your help!
Best regards

Hi Oliver, we’re using a WordPress.com specific version. You might try using the download link in the lower-right corner here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sight/
I recommend having a backup ready to restore in case any of your plugins conflict with this version of the theme. Good luck!
