Theme; Stay. How can I remove Category Archives? Is there any way?
-
Hi everyone,
I am quite a beginner and I am just trying to set up a website for our little family run business. I do not have a premium account or anything extra we do not have the funds for it at the moment so I have to work with what I’ve got.
So far this is what I’ve done http://shakercottage.co.uk/
My quiestion is that how could I remove the Category Archives when you click on the BLOG??
Unfortunatelly it is only a basic wordpress.com account. I am hoping there’s might be a loop hole or something. Thanks for any advice. Have a nice one.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You mean remove “Category Archives:” from the title of the category archives pages, leaving only the title “Blog,” right? How the titles of automatically generated archives pages display is part of the design of the theme, and determined by CSS code which you’d need to customize in order to modify. See the Custom CSS support page.

Yes, that’s what I meant. Sorry didn’t really explain it that well. But the answer is what I was affraid of. I can’t edit the CSS unless I buy a Premium account which I can’t afford at the moment. (I know ‘you get what you pay for’) :S I just thought there might be a way to go around that, as there is always a way but it seems like not this time. Thank you for your help though.

Perhaps I wasn’t thinking very clearly earlier. Actually, there are a couple of easy alternatives. You can’t change the automatically generated post archives page, but you don’t have to provide a link to it. Instead you could provide a link in the custom header menu to the following:
1. Your posts or blog page, assigned at Settings > Reading. You could then truncate the display of each post on the posts page using More Tags. I was unable to discover what page you’ve assigned to display your posts. Your page titled “blog,” http://shakercottage.co.uk/blog/, is ideally suited to be your posts page. You may assign it to be so at Settings > Reading.
2. Your own personally designed post archives page, using a customized display posts shortcode. This shortcode may be more suitable than the post archives shortcode in this case. The display posts code can be customized by adding some of the numerous arguments available, such as:
* image_size (of featured image, if applicable)
* include_date
* include_excerpt
* orderby
etc.Once youve created either or both of the above pages, just provide links to them in your custom navigation menu.
