Theme Suggestions
-
Hi everyone,
I am keen to find the right theme for a test website. Would anyone be able to recommend a theme suitable for a small business offering marketing services? This is for a project as part of an apprenticeship scheme I am involved with.
Any links and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards,
Daniel

your 2015 should work to get started – the problem with theme selection is it is very subjective and personal – put some content on your site so you can see what the theme looks like with real content –
after you have some content on your site the theme preview function will work better

Appreciate the feedback and suggestion.
If I was to purchase a premium theme, besides Woo Themes and Theme Forest, are there any other reliable sites I could browse through?

You cannot use themes from either of those sites on a WordPress.COM blog. They can only be used on WordPress.ORG software installs.
The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.Relevant support docs:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/You cannot upload any third party themes into a WordPress.COM hosted blog so be clear on that. There is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.
WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

See here to browse 65 Business WordPress Themes http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/business/ that can be used on WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
Themes are just “skins”. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click “activate” or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate the help.
However this will be for a WordPress Hosted Website. So WordPress will be installed, allowing me to upload a new theme/template to customise as I wish.
Any suggestions as to where to purchase some good, simple business themes?
Thank you!

Sorry but I don’t have any suggestions other than to look here https://wordpress.org/themes/
We provide support only for blogs hosted by WordPress.COM and that site is not one of them. It’s a WordPress.ORG software install.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. Read the differences here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.
Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -

danielmbrooks1 – looks like timethief has pointed you over to WordPress.org to get help with your self-hosted site. Good luck, and if you decide to return to WordPress.com, you’re always welcome. :-)
