Theme thumbnail post not displayed
-
Hi,
I am using the HEMINGWAY REWRITTEN theme for my blog and I’d like to have the posts displayed with the featured image as a thumbnail. I select the Post format as Aside or Image and the featured image (or nay other image) are not displayed at all. Just the text.
Any help would be appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

One additional detail: if I look at my published posts in the Blog Posts view, the featured image is displayed above the post content as a thumbnail and the draft posts also contain the image.

Hi there,
I’ve tagged this thread with modlook to bring it to the attention of staff
I set up a test site to check this. Featured images don’t appear on the blog page and archives for me either, even when:
– the standard post format is used
– a feature image has been added to posts
– featured images are set to display in the Content OptionsI took a look at the theme files. The featured image only seems to be output on the blog and archive pages if a post is sticky. Is that intentional?

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the follow-up.
I hope that a quick resolution will be available shortly.

It looks like non-sticky posts don’t support featured images – it’s intentional.

@Staff – could support for featured images on non-sticky posts be added as an enhancement?
If not, could the theme setup guide explicitly state that featured images will be only be displayed on the blog page and archives if a post is sticky?

As a potential workaround, you could set the Content Options to display full posts in My Sites > Customize > Content Options.
You could then add an image to the beginning of the post and insert the More tag where you’d like the posts to break on the blog page and archives.

Gary, Thanks again. Hopefully this will be addressed soon as it is a nice to have feature.

Hi there – I’ve made the wording a bit clearer on the theme’s showcase page, as suggested:
Featured images uploaded to Sticky Posts are displayed on the blog and archives, above the post content. Non-sticky posts’ featured images are not displayed on the blog and archives.
Thanks for the enhancement request as well. If we refresh Hemingway Rewritten in the future, we’ll consider displaying featured images for posts that aren’t sticky, but it’s not a change we’ll be making for a theme this old.

Hi Kathrynwp,
Thanks for your follow-up.
As I just finished building my blog and adding quite some content, if I am to change the theme keeping the features and also the look&feel, would you be able to suggest a good alternative to a better&newer theme ?
Thanks,

Sure! I’d suggest checking out Lodestar. Here’s what the blog looks like: https://lodestardemo.wordpress.com/news/ (The demo shows the blog on a separate page, but you can set it to be the front page.) Lodestar displays featured images on the blog for every post, and replaces the header image with the featured image on single posts, like Hemingway Rewritten.
Let me know how it goes!
If you decide to switch themes, you may need to reassign the menu and widgets, but you shouldn’t lose any settings or content. If you need to find unassigned widgets after the switch, go to this page in WP Admin and you should see them at the bottom left, under Inactive Widgets.
If you need any help, just let me know.
