Theme vs plugin vs widget

i am new to wordpress and went thru http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WordPress to know basic of wordpress.
I tried to absorb the explanation among Theme vs plugin vs widget.

My understanding for them is :-

Theme :- It is mlated mainly related to give different look and feel/ presentation to site.

Plugin:- It is mix of presentation and backend logic with DB. For example if i want to develop
retail store site , i probably can download ready made plugin for retail store sites(free or paid) which
will come with presentation, back end logic and database

If i want to change the presentation of my retail store site, i can apply different theme which will just
    change the presentation of site.

I am not sure what widget mean? Probably these are UI widgets like tabs which can incorporate in
    any website?

Please correct my understanding if it is wrong so that i can get good start with wordpress
