Theme with image from each blog post on main page

    I’ve been switching themes, reset to theme, etc. and I can’t seem to get the main page to show a blog post with an image. I get the text but not the image.

    I would like to use the Quadrat or Cyanotype themes but I’m open to switching.

    I’ve spent hours on this and have gone through appearance and settings options many times. It feels like I’m missing something obvious because this seems like a stereotypical blog post but I don’t know what.

    We have a few links for static information but the other point of the site would be to have a brief description of events, each with a picture and a link to a Google Photos Gallery. The images are to make the site more lively.

    Hi @jamesdeibele, there are a few ways to go about this, depending on how much control you want to have over the results.

    1 – Use a static front page with a Posts Block. Just tick the option to show featured images: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/

    2 – Set the front page to Posts: how it displays will depend on your theme and how it’s set up. You can do that under My Site > Settings > Reading.

    or

    3 – Use full site editing to set up the front page as you’d like. You could use the Query Loop block, for example:
    https://wordpress.com/support/full-site-editing/theme-blocks/query-loop-block/

    That first option is probably the easiest to try out, and is easy to undo too if needed. Want to give it a go?

    Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up changing themes to Rebalance because it let me get a proof-of-concept up as fast as possible.

    With Rebalance, I had issues with two copies of the image for each post showing up on the post until I figured out I needed to turn off Featured Image.

    Our old webmaster did a customized self-hosted WordPress installation. Our replacement webmaster quit when she saw how much work it would be to maintain it.

    I’m looking for something that requires very little training because ideally we’ll have a Scout aged 11-17 maintaining the site. But also really good security and performance. Thus WordPress.com seems like a perfect solution.
