Theme won't "activate"
-
I have chosen the Goran theme for my wordpress.com blog several times. Clicked “activate” and chosen the blog I want to apply it to. Yet when I go to customize, the theme isn’t showing up. This seems like a pretty basic function that wordpress should be able to offer, even on a free account. Can someone please offer some insight as to why the theme won’t activate to my blog?
Thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for the directions but those are the same directions I have been following. I even watched the video in that article and no new information was presented. Other themes are working, except for Goran. And the other themes don’t give me what I need. For instance, the other themes all say “Post” on the homepage and insist on showing a blog post on the homepage, when I just want the homepage to look like a regular homepage, not a full blog post with date and author and info that is not needed. Which is why I wanted the Goran theme.
I took screenshots that shows my chosen theme as “Goran” at the top of the themes page, and also a screenshot that shows the theme as an ugly red, black and gray color scheme, with no photos as the final look. That is definitely not the theme. If you can offer any assistance, or point me in the direction of a theme for photography that doesn’t say the word “Post” on the front page, that would be great.
I was using Gateway on another blog (indoorgreenbc.wordpress.com) but that background image won’t change at all. I have uploaded numerous photos, and even chosen the preselected images that come with the theme, and the main header photo will not change after new images have been uploaded and selected. What gives? It should not be this difficult to customize background images or get a theme to actually work. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Themes don’t come as their demo. It’s up to you to customize the theme to your needs. Did you read the manual of the Goran theme at https://wordpress.com/theme/goran?
Also it seems you have deleted brittanycpro.wordpress.com, “brittanycpro.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.” -
As mentioned earlier, I put the new link in my post above. I changed the url of the old site so I could keep that Gateway theme, since most of the settings (except for the inability to do something simple, like change the homepage image) are how I want them. I created a new url, posted above, to see if I could get the Goran theme working.
Of course I did read the instructions, I would not be taking the time out of my life to figure out how to do this and not read the instructions. I’m being forced to use WordPress for a class whose professor is not aware that there are a lot of other, easier website platforms to use. But it didn’t occur to me that Goran would provide a theme with a blank canvas. Also the directions in the instructions are outdated and don’t apply to current Worpress functions (ie. there is no “reading” under settings, but there is a “writing.” So I’ve been unable to follow those “instructions.” As other templates are sort of working, with their original designs intact – coming with the option to just make minor edits, I had no reason to believe that the Goran theme would give you a completely blank slate to try and edit from memory of the screenshots on the theme page to build out the page. But thanks for the input.

Hi there,
As mentioned earlier, I put the new link in my post above.
The only link you gave above is for indoorgreenbc.wordpress.com, and that site is on the Gateway theme. There hasn’t been any recent theme changes on that site – Gateway was activated on that site two years ago.
There is only one other site in your account, indoorgreen.home.blog, and that site is currently set to the Goran theme. However, it appears you’ve been switching back and forth between Goran and various other themes on that site repeatedly over the past few hours.
Please stop changing themes – the theme you want is already active on the site – and follow the instructions @staartmees linked to above to set up the theme as on the demo site.
But it didn’t occur to me that Goran would provide a theme with a blank canvas.
A theme only controls how your content will appear. It does not include the content. You have to create that yourself.
We can set up the theme for you with example content as in the theme demo, but that will completely remove any existing content on the site and is not reversible, so that does not happen automatically.
Please confirm if you want us to do that.
Also the directions in the instructions are outdated and don’t apply to current Worpress functions (ie. there is no “reading” under settings, but there is a “writing.”
Those instructions refer to the WP-Admin interface where you will find a Settings ->Reading:

Hello, yes I added a new link because that was the only url I wanted anyone to see. SO that was very much my prerogative to do so.
Yes, I changed my theme several times because I thought that was a perk of using WordPress, to find one that best suits your needs. Didn’t know that was frowned upon, and there’s nothing in the instructions that says you can’t do that. So not sure why I’m being reprimanded for that. -_-
I NEVER asked for content to be added to my site. Please re-read everything I’ve typed so far in the other posts. I’m aware of the difference between content and style/design. There’s really no need to be pretentious. Other themes (that you so pointedly mentioned that I used) came complete with color, fonts, and border styles, regardless of the content I already had on my page. I even added in some filler text and added in some subheadings to see how that STYLE of the theme would affect the text (ie. content that I added). Goran clearly does not automatically apply the STYLE of the theme to the content – which is what I found confusing. Please do not reply to this post anymore unless you can offer something that is helpful and correct.

It’s your prerogative, yes. However, you cannot expect us to provide you with accurate help if you don’t provide us with the correct site you need help with.

I’m not reprimanding you for anything. Your original post said you’re having trouble activating Goran, but that the theme is not showing up once you open the Customizer.. I merely told you what the logs for your site indicate, and based on those logs and the information you provided made the deduction that the reason you keep on not seeing Goran is because you keep switching away from it after activating it.
Goran clearly does not automatically apply the STYLE of the theme to the content
Where do you see Goran does not apply the style to the content? That is what a theme is designed to do. It cannot do anything else.
It will not necessarily change the layout of the site, as some themes require specific setup steps, but it will immediately apply styling such as the theme’s font, colors, etc.
If you’ve set a custom font or custom colors in the Customizer and those aren’t appearing on the live site, it means you’ve only saved those changes as drafts in the Customizer. In that case you need to go to the Customizer and publish those changes in order to make them live on your site.
