Themes

I have spent a lot of time getting the format of my current theme to work for me, but every once in awhile I see a new theme I’d like to check out without having to loose my old theme (to make sure I really want to switch). I’d like to play around with the settings beyond what the “preview” will allow me to do. Is there a way I can activate a theme in a “trial” mode just for me without loosing my current theme, that way if I don’t like it I don’t have to spend time rebuilding my old theme back the way I have it now?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s usually best to either keep a copy in Notepad or some other raw text editor of all your CSS changes, OR register a test blog.

You can also set up a test blog on your account and keep it set to private where you can try out new themes and such, and you can even export some or all of your content from your main site and import it into the test blog so that you can see how things will be with your content.

Some people will make a test blog and import some of your content into it, set the test blog to Private and test away.

A sugestion on the name from thesacredpath – use something like

    your-blog-test.wordpress.com

That way by using a variation on your own name you don’t burn a “good” URL

Yes, that is a good idea.

You do not have to activate the theme. You can use the “preview” function to see how any new theme would appear on your blog.
