Themes

Hello, I purchased a theme called Kalium, yet when I try to install it on WordPress, it says I need a business account (i.e. £300). Please let me know if this is the case just to install a paid theme, as this seems to be extortionate (e.g. paying for the theme AND the ability to install it). Many thanks, Adam

Hey Adam, sorry for the misunderstanding. You can install it on your own free copy of WordPress with another host. You’d just need to take care hosting, maintenance, etc on your own.
Or, you can install it on a managed site here, but you would need our Business or eCommerce plan. Extra plugins and outside themes add complexity to our support and maintenance services, which is why we charge more to install outside code.
If it helps clarify things for you, here’s a short article about the differences between the free software and our service:
https://get.wp.comYou’d be welcome to use one of our built-in theme options instead. Business and Premium plans both come with several premium theme offerings.
Or, if that particular theme is really important to you, the link above should clear up your options for you. Let us know if you need more help with that.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply! So is it possible I can install the theme on a free version of the WordPress site (i.e. are the copies of WordPress with another host free?)? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can sign up to these? Many thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam!
So is it possible I can install the theme on a free version of the WordPress site (i.e. are the copies of WordPress with another host free?)?
The WordPress software is open source and free. There are other hosts out there which will help you with the installation as part of their monthly hosting fee. We recommend two hosts at the link below.
Once you have picked a host and installed WordPress, you can then install the theme you purchased.
From there, most of your support inquiries will either go directly to the creators of your theme, or through the community support forums at WordPress.org: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Hello,
Thanks for the responses.
From the link you sent Dean, I can see wordpress.com, and wordpress.org – are these the two hosts you refer to? I apologise for being a bit slow on this, but it’s not super clear to me whether I can setup a WordPress (with other host or with WordPress itself) and install the theme I purchased without paying additional costs. I understand that with WordPress itself, this isn’t possible without paying for a business account, is that right? And then the alternative to me isn’t that clear?
Best,
Adam

Hi Adam!
Dean was referring to the excerpt here on the page:
Bluehost and Pressable are the two hosts we recommend.
For the free, open source route, installing plugins are technically free, but you have to pay for hosting at a place like Bluehost or Pressable to use the open source version of WordPress.
