Themes Adaptable to Existing Images That Are 510, 340, 255 and 170 Pixels Wide
-
I would like to move my blog http://buildingprovincetown.wordpress.com from ChaosTheory (customized) to a theme that is currently supported and that has a white background. Here’s my question: I have already cut hundreds of images to fit the 510px column width of ChaosTheory, and thousands more to related widths; i.e. 340px (two-thirds of the 510 measure), 255pix (one-half), and 170px (one-third). How can I determine what themes — if any — will easily incorporate 510px, 340px, 255px and 170px images, so that I don’t have to do any further formatting or, worse, have to re-cut images to different widths? Thank you.

Howdy,
We have two themes that are currently supported with a 510px width “out of the box”:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pink-touch-2/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/next-saturday/Neither one of them have a white background, but since you have the Custom Design upgrade, we can change that via the Appearance->Customize area.
Additionally, this one is close to size:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/selecta/Many themes could be adjusted down a bit to 510px using the Custom CSS aspect of your Custom Design upgrade. We have CSS wizards over in the CSS Forums at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization that could help you with that, if you’d like to go that route.
I hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers!

Thank you so much for this encouraging and timely response.
I look forward to trying some of these out this weekend.

Have fun! If you have any questions, please let me or the folks in the CSS forums know.
Have a great weekend.

Pink Touch 2 is the answer! Thank you so much. You’ve helped limit the amount of tweaking I’ll have to do to a very manageable minimum.
How easy/difficult would it be for this CSS-illiterate to eliminate the date “flag” that appears in the upper left corner of each post?
As you may have deduced, my blog is encyclopedic, rather than chronological; so there is no need for the date to appear. (In fact, my publication dates are artificial — they’re designed to maintain alphabetical order among the posts.)
I’m afraid I couldn’t find a straightforward answer in the forums

It’s pretty straightforward.
If you visit the Appearance->Customize->CSS options on your site’s dashboard, you can add, then save, the following code:
.date { display: none; }That’ll remove the flag, so your site would look like this: https://cloudup.com/c3PAcifYHy8
Cheers!

Simply brilliant. Done and done.
I began using WordPress six years ago as a reporter for the City Room blog on The New York Times website. I was so impressed with it as a platform that I didn’t think twice about my choice when I decided in 2009 to start a blog of my own. I’ve been a very happy customer ever since.
But this is my first one-to-one interaction with the staff. And I must say it’s left me more appreciative and grateful than ever that I made the decision to base Building Provincetown at WordPress.
Thank you so much for your timely, patient assistance.
And cheers!
Sincerely, David W. Dunlap

Hi David,
Thanks for the kind words. I’ll pass them along to the rest of the “Happiness” team—it makes our day :-).
I hope you had a great weekend and please let me know if you need anything else.
Cheers!
