Themes available on wordpress.com allowing to manage categories like pages
-
I need to have my blog categories presented like pages exactly as if I was writing multiple blogs in one (here is a good example: http://www.altsearchengines.com/). On the other hand I absolutely don’t want to host my blog somewhere else so that I would be free to apply any personal theme.
My question: does any available theme through wordpress.com meet my requirement and/or any hint to get the same result an other way.
Many thanks in advance. -
Can you re-word “have my blog categories presented like pages exactly as if I was writing multiple blogs in one”? I am really not sure what you’re asking. Do you mean you want the tabs along the top to be links to the Category Pages? No themes here work that way. The Category links go in the sidebar.

if you glance at the example I gave http://www.altsearchengines.com/ you can immediately catch what I am talking about. Thx

You want your categories along the top where the pages tabs are instead of in the sidebar?
I don’t think that can be done here.

We do not have any themes that list categories along the top where page tabs are normally displayed. Categories here are displayed via the Categories widget in the sidebars of our blogs at wordpress.com.

Carocat > yes indeed! One possibility would be to enable to determine the Page Path so it would be possible to link a Page to a given Category directory … for example, if in “Page Slug” the “/” character was allowed, I could get the expected result easily. Any other workaround?

There are no available themes that meet your criteria at wordpress.com. Have you tried the workaround that you propose above?
I can find no workarounds in the forum searchbox and on this multiuser blogging platform we cannot edit our templates. Granted we can purchase css customization upgrades to change blog appearances only but we cannot edit the html or php. Here categories are displayed in sidebars and I have yet to see anyone change that at wordpress.com.
On the other hand, wordpress has two options you can hire a web host and download free software from http://wordpress.org or you can host it on your own server. Either way you and hack that software to suit you.

How about using a theme that does not have top navigation and then using the “categories widget and renaming it “pages” and putting it at the top of your sidebar. That way when someone clicked on a “category” in that widget it would take them to the page with posts you have made in that category.
[edit: actually it doesn’t matter if you have top navigation or not]
