Themes broken after OS upgrade

  • Unknown's avatar

After a recent upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04, I lost the ability to install themes on my server’s wordpress blog. The databases remained unaffected, and I can still log into wp-admin and get to the dashboard where I can view the drafts of my posts and even edit them. However, my 2013 theme is broken, and whenever I successfully install any other theme (across the board), I invariably get a “Cheatin, uh?” message, or the white screen of death.

The only sense I can make out of this is that my version of php was upgraded to php5.5 during the upgrade, and there are some minor discrepencies in the theme code. I’ve set WP_DEBUG to true and it brings up no errors whatsoever. How do I go about debugging this problem? I’ve reached a dead-end.

You are in the wrong forum and need to be at WordPress.ORG for help with that version of the software.

  • As raincoaster mentioned, these forums are for folks hosted here at WordPress.com. Since you’re running a self-hosted install, you can get help by posting your question in the WordPress.org support forums:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/register.php

    Good luck!

Thanks for redirecting me. I now have a wordpress.org account and have asked the same question there, however, no one feels up to responding. It would truly be a daunting task. Apparently no bugs, and yet every theme installation gives me Cheatin Uh. What a mystery! I think I’ll make another blog on my Fedora apache server and see if I have the same problem over there.

Did you try using Google search?
    Cheatin Uh site:wordpress.org/support/

That message does not happen if you have third party cookies enabled on your browser.

It’s more complicated (or more simple) than that. Yes, if it was theme specific problem, I would look into the code for a particular theme, but it is not. If it were a general problem that could be fixed with changing browser preferences, that would be something to look into, but it isn’t because third party cookies are enabled on my browser. I read many similar forum posts before I asked this question. Unfortunately, I think many experts are dismissing this as an un-informed post. Thanks.
