Themes for children

  Please would someone design a free theme or two that’s suitable for use with primary school children? I really want to give them a WordPress site to display their work, but the themes are a little grown up for them and as a staff we don’t have the time, server space or knowledge to go for a .org site. Something simple, colourful but cool would be excellent… They would love having their own site to work with.

  I’m thinking that one has to be age 13 before they can register an account here but I could be wrong about that.

  The account would be set up by the school and monitored by it, though.

  Have you seen http://kidslearntoblog.com/ ?

  They have tips for helping kids learn to blog, learn smart internet safe behavior, and use blogging for kid-appropriate educational and entertainment purposes. At the bottom of the page, there’s a link to advice on creating blogs for kids under 13. They may be helpful. :-)

  Theme Staff do monitor these threads and will reply to you. In the meanwhile there are feature filters in the Themes Showcase searchbox that you could use. Many themes allow for customization in many ways from custom image headers to custom backgrounds. Others have special features like featured images.   Seems to me that a lot could be done with the proper choice of header graphic and background image – many themes can have those items changed quite easily.

  What if your students designed the header artwork – maybe change the header every few days or so to put different graphics in the header?

  Thanks for the link, i’ve had a look and could use some of those videos.
  They could, indeed – this is something I’m proposing to the Head so hopefully it will take off soon. Am looking into a safe social network for them to run alongside, as well.
