Themes from other sites?

  If I want to use a downloaded theme from outside of the WordPress options, do I need to pay for Premium? I can’t seem to find a way to import a theme in ‘Appearances’ with the free version of WordPress.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  You can’t use a third party theme on WordPress.COM – does not matter what the upgrade is

  Thanks for the quick response. So I need to self host if I want to use a 3rd party theme?

  That’s correct. On the free WordPress.com service, you can only use a theme from the Theme showcase–which, to be fair, is an extensive showcase of 130 free themes and 78 premium themes. If you don’t want to go the self-hosting route, I’d try searching for a theme that satisfies the same needs that the custom theme does. You could probably find one.

  There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. WordPress.com and WordPress.ORG have different logins.

  If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
