Themes similar to Collective?

  I’m putting a new site together…I’m about 4 months old in wordpress years, but getting along OK..already beyond the toddler stage, I’d say! But theme selection is a challenge!

  So, the Collective theme looks good. My question is: anyone out there have immediate ideas for others that I might consider that are similar? Or existing sites I might look at that use Collective, or serve a similar purpose to mine?

  Here’s where I am headed: I need a multi-author site that will support blog posts in a number of categories. Along with that, search functions and ancillary pages that have supporting material that would be of interest to the reader community.

  The application is a structured, moderated site where topics of local interest can be introduced (the blog entry), and discussed. All topics are related to civics matters…elections, development, recreation services, public works, etc.

  In parallel there are local government sites, and also public forums. This use is different for being closely moderated, and having a higher level of factual information and/or expert blogging. At the same time, it should be easy/fun to use so that the otherwise “heady” topics are presented in a convenient and visually non-demanding way. (i.e. not plain US government issue policy wonk feeling!)

  Any pointers graciously accepted!

  Under the subject of Collaboration we list 17 themes which you may wish to take a look at.

  Google searches really didn’t come up with much as far as “Collaborative” themes. You didn’t mention it, but assuming you are talking about self-hosting sites, you may wish to look at some of the theme shops, such as ThemeForest or MOJO Marketplace
