themes that are better for poetry / text formatting
-
are there any themes that are better about allowing preformatted text? specifically, not defaulting to a specific alignment?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This really isn’t a themes issue and the answer to your question is “no”. However, please see here for formatting poetry tips that apply to all themes.

i’ve tried everything that post suggested.
the ‘preformatted’ option doesn’t seem to do anything at all, except preserve italics.
i’ve also tried typing the spaces in, in html, which doesn’t seem to work either.the blog i have is exclusively poetry, and i’m very close to ditching wordpress altogether if i can’t get this figured out soon.
-
By itself, the only thing the pre tag does is preserve multiple spaces and line breaks.
Your problem isn’t WordPress in particular, it’s the code language of the web in general. You should either start learning HTML and inline CSS or (if you are a PC user) try using Windows Live Writer.

i have plans to learn some basic html, but i have used other blogging platforms and sites and haven’t had this problem at all.
the preformat tag doesn’t seem to preserve the multiple spaces either…. unless i’m using it wrong?

Windows Live Writer is cool and when you use it you will have a backup of every post and page you publish on your blog on your own computer as WLW creates a file for them and automatically adds them.
-
that sounds awesome.
is it just a word processing program? do you use it to write directly into the blog? … i’ll check it out when i get a chance.if it helps with this issue it will be immeasurably worth it.

You compose your posts and pages and add any formatting and images or videos in WLW and then you have WLW automatically publish them on your blog when you are ready.
