Themes with main page slideshows

    I am looking to use a theme that has a slide show as the main image on the homepage. I tried to create a slideshow block but the photos are too small. I want the images to stretch from one side of the page to the other.

    Hi @itsrebekahlyn, there are a handful of themes with post sliders if that will do for you:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/post-slider/

    That would mean you’re using separate posts, each with a featured image, to compose the slideshow.

    You may also be able to use the Post Carousel block in the same way. Be sure you’re using a theme that supports full-width blocks, and again, make sure you have a handful of posts published with big featured images. You can put the same tag on all of them and use images that are the same (big) size to help.

    Thanks. I think I found a full page theme and your explanation about the different pages makes sense. Didn’t even think of building the pages first. Is there a particular size the images need to be for full page coverage?

    I see Morden currently active – is this the theme you’re referring to?

    Is there a particular size the images need to be for full page coverage?

    There’s no real set size, but you’re looking to use something 1900px wide in upward of that.

    Yes, Modern is the theme in question. The image I am currently trying to use is 5000×2813 pixels and is still not coming up as a full page image. I set it as featured image and still there is white space on either side of it.

    I put it back in draft and deleted the images I had in the slide show. Inserted a Carousel block, but can’t get figure out how to choose the posts to include in the carousel.

    For the Post Carousel, there’s a setting to choose which posts will show:

    However, it looks like all the posts you’ve created so far are all marked “Private”. For a post to be displayed, it must meet the following requirements:

    – The post must be published. Draft posts will not appear.
    – The post must have a featured image.
    – The post must not already be displayed elsewhere on the page, either in another Post Carousel block or a Blog Posts block. A post will only appear once on a page.

    Even with posts published publicly and featured images, the pages still aren’t showing up when I go to choose specific posts.

    @itsrebekahlyn I’m guessing it’s that the posts are private.

    Are you keeping them private for now just while you set up the site? If so, the entire site is private currently, so it’s safe to publish them to see if that helps.

    If those posts will remain private indefinitely even after the site is public, we might want to rethink how best to do this. Let us know if that’s the case.
