Themes with widgets pre-configured

Using ChaosTheory theme. It comes with a selection of standard widgets which are pre-configured to appear as a ‘set’. (If you add a Widget yourself, then the pre-configured ‘set’ is seemingly removed). Unfortunately, I only want ONE of these widgets- Recent Comments – and as its part of the ‘set,’ I don’t seem to be able to add it back on its own. QUESTION: Is it possible to create a text widget myself which will gather and display recent comments? Thanks!

All WP.com blogs have a set of widgets that are enabled when you first join. As you have discovered, when you start to play with the widgets, this set is removed. But you should then be able to add any widgets you want individual. Have you tried adding the Recent Comments widget now?

@ Ros. There are a couple of themes where the widgets ya get, are the widgets ya get. Chaos is not one of them. There’s no option to add or take away widgets. Can’t think which themes, off the top of my head, but there are at least 2. :) That’s how it was about a year ago, when I was considering switching themes.

Thanks Ros, but no, I can’t add it back in; the “add” button simply doesn’t appear. Darn it, and it was all going so well!

I am using ChaosTheory on one of my blogs and have not had this problem. Can you remove all the widgets and just add back what you want? There are 2 sidebars to deal with so perhaps it is set up in one of them and therefore not available in the other one. At the top of the widgets is a dropdown selection box that gives you either sidebar1 or sidebar2. Clear out both of them then try adding.

I just tested it on one of my blogs and I can’t see this problem at all. Chaostheory – like many other WP.com blogs – comes with a standard set of widgets. But there was no difficulty in adding or removing any of these individually.

So now I’m wondering – since the WP.com blog linked to in your username is using a different theme altogether (Contempt) whether the blog you’re asking about is actually wp.com blog. Please could you give us a link to it so we can see what the problem is.

@Ros. Yes, you’re right, I’m looking after two blogs: the ‘Contempt’ one, and my new one which is here:

@Bazaarofdreams. Yes, I know what you mean, but I’m aware that there are two sidebars, and I’ve been very careful to clear them both out before attempting to add.

Its weird. The lack of an “add” facility makes it look as though the widgets in question are already in place – but of course they’re not…..

Thanks for any help you can give!

I tried to change to “Ocadia” and the exact same problems.
As well as loosing my buttons and badges.
