  I saw this: If you’re not sure where to find GPL’d WordPress themes, themes.wordpress.net is a great start. The writer of the post seemed to imply that blogs on this list could be used for WordPress.com themes.

  Is this correct or have I misunderstood???

  That is not correct. Only GPL-licensed themes CAN be considered at WP.com, but they generally will not be considered until someone has specifically requested them. There’s a thread in the forum that has about 300 such suggestions at the moment; adding to that is probably the best way to get one of the themes considered for approval.

  That is incorrect.

  We cannot upload themes here at wordpress.COM no matter where they come from. All themes used here have to be modified to run on this version of wordpress and so that it works properly with how wordpress.COM is set up, and carefully reviewed for security issues. Then the themes have to be tested in all browsers on all platforms, and then any adjustments for those browsers have to be incorporated, then the testing begins again. If new problems are found, the cycle repeats.

  There are also lots of other wordpress theme sites – just search for “wordpress theme” on google

  And none of those themes can be applied to WordPress.com blogs. See above.
