  WordPress.com shows ads on the website which are using its free plan. It helps to recover the server cost.

  If you want to monetize your website with the ad networks like WordAds and more, you have to buy the paid plans.

  Sometimes, we display advertisements on WordPress.com sites, in order to keep free features free. We try to make the ads discreet and to only run them in limited places.
  To entirely eliminate ads on your blog, you can purchase a WordPress.com Personal plan or above. You can read more about what is included in our plans here:
