There is no more option to make a slideshow in a post
-
An Edit Image button should now be visible on the Add Media window, just above the Delete Permanently link.
Here’s a screenshot:

I have to agree, the insert slideshow button was really useful and the only reason i was using wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org.
It is much more complicated now to order, edit and create slideshows especially when you are uploading 50-100 photos a day to your blog. I also have many authors and contributors to my blog who no longer know how to add a slideshow, many of whom are not very computer savvy. I hope the insert slideshow button is back soon, next to insert gallery -

Inserting a slideshow is quite easy – just type in [slideshow] wherever you want it to appear.
Getting it into the right sequence – whoa! Not at all easy. Try putting dozens of photos into newest first – oldest last sequence. Do it on different days. Omit one and try to insert it later into the proper place? Forget it – you have to delete every photo with a more recent date. Enter photos of one date, post everything & leave, then come back a few hours later to try to post some more recent photos? Won’t work. Program sticks them into sequence as if you hadn’t taken a break.
I sure hope this gets straightened out soon. It worked like a charm previously.
Thanks for your suggestions (upload & post each photo separately) which I have followed and which do work, albeit onerously. -
We are currently working on revamping the slideshow feature and will let you know just as soon as it’s ready!

Any idea when it will be fixed?
I’ve experimented and determined that I can attach them one-by-one to create a desired sequence, but all such later additions by attachment will follow all previously attached photos (when attached after the programming change.) Thus what I was doing previous to the change – slideshow sequence displaying last date first – can no longer be done.

I hope to have good news to share soon, though I can’t promise an ETA. Thanks very much for your patience, we hope it’ll be worth the wait.

The option to add a slideshow from the new Media interface is now available. Slideshows are now part of the Galleries feature, and have all the useful options that galleries do, including the ability to reorder, randomize, and exclude certain images from the slideshow. You can learn more on these two pages:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/One thing to keep in mind is that while the old [slideshow] shortcode will continue to work, to access all the new features – such as ordering, excluding certain images, etc. – you’ll need to update your shortcode to use the new [gallery type="slideshow"] format.
If you have any questions about the new slideshows, just let me know.

Kathryn:
Thanks to you and whomever else was involved, the slideshow function now works very well, and I am again able to do everything I could do before. I’m very grateful, and I expect that my hair – recently pulled from my head by person or persons unnamed – will indeed eventually grow back. -

Hi i still got a problem getting that gallery type: slideshow
am i suppose to have that option already? back at its normal settings? -
The “Insert Slideshow” option is missing. Until the button comes back, you can simply type the following in your post or page after you’ve uploaded your images.
[slideshow] -

As kathrynwp said above, the option to add a new slideshow already exists as part of using the Gallery feature.
After you make your image selections and click the Create a New Gallery button in the Media Uploader, the screen changes to the Gallery screen. In the right sidebar there is a dropdown for “Type” whose options are Default (thumbnail grid), Tiles (rectangle), Square Tiles, Circles and SLIDESHOW. Select SLIDESHOW, click the Insert Gallery button.

chukar49 & justjennifer – it’s our pleasure!
chukar49 – I do hope that hair grows back. :-)
shlepshitz – if you’re still having trouble with a particular slideshow, please start a new thread and link to it from here so I can help you troubleshoot more easily. Please include the link to your post or page with the slideshow and let me know whether you’re trying to add a new slideshow or adapt a pre-existing one to the new format.
