There’s a copy of my weblog on another domain used for ad spam
-
Goodday!
I have a blog located at sievertschreiber.wordpress.com which I no longer update but is still available to see for everyone.
Recently I got a Google Alert about sievertschreiber.xyz which isn’t mine. To my surprise, when I clicked to see what it was, I arrived on a page filled with all kinds of ads. Below are some examples of what I found:
http://sievertschreiber.xyz/ifariju/eradon/griffon-belge-fokkers.html
http://sievertschreiber.xyz/ifariju/eradon/snoep-uit-de-jaren-60.html
http://sievertschreiber.xyz/ifariju/eradon/tattoo-zijkant-nek.html
http://sievertschreiber.xyz/ifariju/eradon/fototoxiciteit-geneesmiddelen.htmlMy first thought was someone created a site for ad spam purposes using my name as the domain but when I visited the basic domain (sievertschreiber.xyz) I was even more surprised. The front page of the domain is a 100% working copy of my blog at sievertschreiber.wordpress.com and has the ad spam pages hidden behind it.
I have several questions regarding this issue:
- is wordpress.com aware that this is happening, that their blogs are being copied without the blog owners permission?
- if so are they supporting this, i.e. are they creating them to get more ad revenues for free blogs?
- if not is there any way to stop this from happening or to delete it?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Sievert

That site, the one ending in xyz, is not ours nor is is affiliated with us in any way. This is a typically add-spam site tactic to display another website’s content so that they can then cover things with ads. This can happen to any site, not only here.
You can see here for information on how to go about getting them shut down, but given the web host is in South Africa, it may or may not be easy to do.
I doubt the site owner is going to do this voluntarily, so you are likely going to have to prepare a DMCA violation notice and then use the contact form at their web host to see if they will shut it down.
Web host: https://www.vehost.co.za/

Typically I would suggest setting your site to private so that they couldn’t scrape the content, but you would not want to do that until after the web host has time to investigate and hopefully shut them down.
If the web host doesn’t do anything, I would definitely set the site to private.
Sorry you are having to go through this, but I can empathize as it happened to me several years ago.
