These ads are alienating me – I don't want to look at my own site

Recently I retired and I planned to return to wordpress.com and revive a blog which I enjoyed creating. Today I created a test post. This is what I saw (except the second ad was doubled). Three ads surrounding the new header.

Is this the way it’s going to be? I need a reality check.

Wordpress deserves to earn money. I want WordPress to earn money. I like WordPress and have always appreciated being able to try things out for free. I’ve already been buying several domains through website for years. Now I was willing to spend more money and I was planning to buy a theme and upgrading to enhance it.

But this is very alienating. Is this the way that a site is expected to look like if it is free? Now I’m looking at the possibility that I should take my material and leave. That’s a big step for me so want to check it out what is going on before I do that.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi insightfulcommentary,

The ads team try new placements from time to time in order to see what works best in relation to your content, so the location of ads can change over time. We’ve made a change on our end which should help with the ad placement in the header.

If you have any questions about reviving your blog, just let me know :)

    Thank you. Appreciate the response.

I looked at it today and it was totally different.

Will the ad placement change from day to day? and will there be ads placed above the content on free blogs?

If this seems reasonable then I intend to buy the ad free option for this particular blog this week and focus on it. But I will be playing with other free blogs in the background and would like to know what to expect.

    Thanks again. This was helpful.

  • Will the ad placement change from day to day?

Not really on a day to day basis, but it does change periodically.

You might also consider using your theme’s built in mobile option (rather than the default mobile theme) to see if you like its ad placement better.
