Things bolded that should not be.

Just used Quick Edit to change the dates on all of my posts (to match their original postdates on another blog). Now all of the text in every post except the top one is bold, whether it should be or not. This remains true no matter which post is on top, and only applies to aggregate pages (mainpage, by category); each post is fine on its own. For a while some (but not all!) of the post titles had “h1” in front of them (in bold, natch), but republishing things seems to have cleared that up.

    I am frankly mystified.

Thank you very much for quick response! Sadly, my more tags are free from strong-tag oppression, and the fact that each post looks fine on its own page makes me think something is messed up in the… magic… site-putting-together HTML that I don’t have access to, if you know what I mean. Or intend to mean.

Actually no they aren’t. If you view the source you will see that there is a ending strong tag after the more tag in the first post. The more tag should be placed like it was its own paragraph with an enter/return before it. Right now there is just a br before it (shift-return/enter).

As a matter of fact, it is that way for every post on the main page. The strong tag (bold) was not ended after the [spoilers begin here] so it carries on and applies to the more tags regardless of whether you put in a br or a full return.

One thing I would suggest is to go to settings > writing and check “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.” That should help in the future.

Also, my other suggestion is to write the entire post and not pay any attention to formatting until after you have finished it. Then go in an put in bold or italics or whatever by highlighting the text and then clicking on the button otherwise you have to make sure and click the bold or italics button when you are finished with that formatting so that you properly end the tag.

A-ha! Some were fine (somehow, accidentally), others broken. Thanks very much to you both.
