  Am I able to add third party afflifate programs for personal profit to the site or will they be taken down and does the banner have a restriction on what it can show or promote ?

  There are a few ways in which you can monetize your site and affiliate linking is one of them.

  You can add affiliate links to your WordPress.com content as long as the primary purpose of your blog is to create original content, and as long as the code for the ad is supported.
