Third party themes

    Hello I have been wondering why wordpress.com does not allow to install third party themes. It seems it is about security. Don’t know how difficult it would be to sandbox 3rd party themes and to allow users to have them as private, An alternative if that option is too much work could be to do an agreement with a company like Elegant Themes http://www.elegantthemes.com/
    I think wordpress.com lacks of high quality themes and could get some more revenue by providing high quality themes “at a price” ;-)

    There is no FTP access to wordpress.com blogs – we cannot upload anything into them.

    I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU (wordpress multiuser) blogging platform and that wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG run on different software. Consquently, security is a very important factor.

    Most themes here were originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were eliminated as this is a WP-MU blogging platform. Part of that adaptation process is carefully examining the code and removing any embedded or hidden code. We members cannot access and edit the underlying php and html in the templates. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates.

    I see that it is empty. May I suggest that you consider hiring a web host and getting your own independent software install from wordpress.ORG?

    Also note that there is a Themes Showcase and demo site for the over 100 themes available to us at wordpress.COM here > http://theme.wordpress.com/

    Id we wish we can request that the Thme Staff consider adapting a theme by following the process stated in the sticky post at the head of the themes forum. > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-use-the-themes-forum?replies=1
