This advertising is not OK

I know that you wanted screenshots of adverts that are badly positioned etc, partly I assume because if we give you a link, and you visit it yourself, you don’t get to see the same ads.

Here is an example that really is not ok.

This video is an ad, but it looks like you are supposed to play the video to learn how to do what the paragraph just before it does. This is not OK! It’s also lined up with the pre-formatted text that follows making it look like it is part of the blog post text.

Seriously, this has got to stop now. You are ruining WordPress with this stuff. Please, if you want to have more than one ad in a blog post, let us position them so that this sort of thing doesn’t happen.

Also, really why do you need to have 8 ads in one blog post. I regularly see 4 ads inline in the test plus one on the left, one on the right, a huge banner one just under my site’s banner image, and one that slides up from the bottom. Often the 4 inline are all the same, and generally the left and right sliders are the same too.

WordPress is starting to look like those websites where you can barely see the content because of the ads. Do you really want that reputation?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I see what you mean, regarding the placement of the video. I haven’t been able to replicate the inline video ad on my end so I appreciate you sharing the screenshot and this feedback.

Our placement of ads on sites without a plan helps us to cover the costs of hosting these sites. With our paid plans, it’s possible to limit, remove, or earn an income on advertisements, so I would recommend looking into this if this is something you are interested in. We have many plans ranging in pricing and features, so we’d love to talk with you more about what may fit your needs as your site continues to grow.

I’m not able to afford plans. Are you suggesting that 8 ads per page is correct and normal for a free plan?

Are you sure your browser hasn’t been infected or uses an extension that puts ads on the webpages you visite?

hi @staartmees, yes I am 99.99% certain. I have up-to-date virus checker and the same thing is seen on both old and new laptop. Are you saying that I am the only free blog suffering from this many ads? That information would be valuable to know.

@staff-annatautomattic It’s not that there are ads, which we know appear on ad-supported plans, but here also it is the ad placement, which has in the past been directed to the Ad Team as feedback.

@moraghughson I’m logged in on my PC and don’t see any ads on that post when using Firefox, which has a built in blocker. However, while logged out and using MSEdge, when I directly access your above post, it is plastered with Google ads (8 total for me): one ad in each trough on each side of the content column, a sticky banner ad at the bottom of the browser window and 5 ads in the content column itself. Is this the worst I’ve seen over the years? It’s certainly close!

I also can’t see if you are using blocks or even if this will work or not, but if you have a critical bit of content that needs to stay together, try grouping the relevant blocks together to see if that makes any difference concerning ads placement.

@2020testjj thank you for confirming it’s not me with a virus. Yes, these 8 ads are what I have been complaining about for probably a year now. No one has done anything though. It is just horrible.

I’m using Chrome as my browser, but I did try Edge yesterday to double check whether another browser had the same problem and it did. I do not have Firefox installed.

I don’t know ow how to group blocks together, but I will try anything. Let me know how and I’ll give it a shot.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m not even sure if this will produce the desired result, but it’s worth a try
