“This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.” on Gallery

    Hi,

    I’m trying to add more photos to the wordpress gallery block however I’m getting an error saying “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.”, I’ve tried deleting the block and starting from scratch but keep getting the same error when trying to add more photos.

    I’m having this issue on my https://alusciousmix.photo/places/ page and https://alusciousmix.photo/expired/

    The error looks like this – any idea what could be causing it? what I can do to fix? I’ve got a personal plan so plugins aren’t an optuion sadly.

    Hi there,

    I noticed that on both of those pages the size of the gallery is pretty large (over 50 images) each, and it can be the case that the gallery block will have issues when too many images are added. Because the layout is created dynamically to fit the thumbnails together, there is a limit to how many images can be added to a single gallery.

    Is this an issue even with small galleries or only affecting larger ones such as the two examples you provided?

    Thanks so much for your response! I’m not having this issue with the smaller galleries I have so likely that is the cause!

    Is there any way I can turn the dynamic layout off? The primary function of this website is to host a large number of images so would ideally like to have more than 50 per gallery. I suppose a work around might be to have multiple gallery blocks on the same page but I imagine that would look a bit clunky.

    If the error you’re experiencing doesn’t prevent you from accessing the gallery controls, you can try clicking on “attempt block recovery” to see if it allows you to access the menu below. By clicking that icon, you should be able to switch from a tiled gallery to a regular gallery format.

    Alternatively, you can insert multiple tiled galleries on a page and distribute your photos among them. This approach can help overcome the issue caused by having too many photos in a single gallery.
