This continues to happen.

My name is Drew Van Dyke. I have been using WordPress services for about three years now. I have a major problem. I cannot login to my website, drewvandyke.com.

After about a year hiatus of logging in, I came back, and attempted to do so thru wordpress.com. However, I had forgotten my password. When I typed in my email address to retrieve a new password, I was told that the email account is not recognized. I have tried every email I own, checked my trash and spam folders, and attempted to contact WordPress multiple times. No luck. I had to create ANOTHER wordpress account in the last ten minutes just to be able to use this support feature as a user because none of my previous email addresses were recognized, hence why I just made drewsvandyke.wordpress.com.

Why can I not access my information for drewvandyke.com? The frustrating thing is that when I type in my user name “drewvandyke” to create a new password, I am informed that the email for resetting my password has been sent. Where is this email being sent if WordPress does not in reality have my email?

More frustrating, is that this has all happened before. I was unable to remember my password for drewvandyke.wordpress.com back in January of 2013, and could not reset it. I contacted support and told them of my problem, but they were not willing to assist me because I could not provide them the desired information (see attached). When I was unable to access that blog, I created a new site, drewvandyke.com with Go Daddy using a wordpress format and Zenon Pro plug-in. This is the one that I can now no longer access.

Do you have any suggestions? How can I prove who I am and get access to the admin part of my site? Can I show you the sales receipt and order number from my upgrade to Zenon Pro? I still have that email. Is there a way that I can fix whatever is wrong with my email so I can properly log in? How could I have signed up to use WordPress without a correct email?

I am an idiot when it comes to anything of this nature. I am asking for your help as a faithful WordPress customer. I really need to access my website.

    Thank you for your time,

    Drew Van Dyke

drewvandyke.com is as you say not a WordPress.com site and we cannot help you with that. Good luck using Godaddy support. We can only help with your WordPress.com site.

I am not sure that is the case.

Whenever I was making revisions in the past, it was thru wordpress. When I click on the page source for my site, this is what comes up:

!– This site is optimized with the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin v1.4.15 – http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/ –>

drewvandyke.com – is not hosted here

I am not sure that is the case.

The log-in and Dashboard look almost the same for WordPress.COM sites & WordPress.ORG installs

Here is your log-in if you have lost it: http://drewvandyke.com/wp-login.php

    Use lost password option

I apologize, this stuff is so over my head.

Thank you both for your assistance. You have been very helpful. Now, is there a way I can erase my initial forum post for dignity’s sake?

No, there isn’t. Don’t worry, it’s a very common mistake (we’ve dealt with three cases like this today alone) and hopefully the thread can educate someone in the future.

How will I (and the three others) make it in today’s world? We’d be doomed without you guys. Thanks again.

My site is about boating safety (and there are some nifty DIY things you can make like key fobs & Place-mats for your friends) – so not just for boaters

You be welcome & good luck
