I wonder if this is the same issue as referenced in this thread? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/heads-up-on-phishing?replies=1

I received the same email & replied to it before I realized that it may be spam. Is it? It sent me to a different website:

This spam is definitely making the rounds. I just received it too, after securing a domain from WordPress. This came almost instantaneously after I completed my credit card transaction. Is there some sort of data breach? I sure won’t click on it.

Hi there!
Thanks for checking with us first! This is a new requirement for buying a domain name, and because it is a recent implementation (a required by ICANN) we’re working on making it look less spammy.
Please DO RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL.
There are 2 separate verifications that need to happen. The first is verifying your WordPress.com account.
The second is verifying the domain registration – that would be the email you received from (email visible only to moderators and staff) – all you have to do is click on the “Verify your email address” button. If you already did that, then you are good to go!
I’m sorry for the confusion and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Shawna: Thanks for your reply. Well, my email was deleted with my 50 other spams already. I will say, the email that came is so confusing with no clear company/brand attachment to WordPress that a prudent user rightly should delete it. In fact, even after reading your response, I would delete another one just like it. If you want to make recommendations for people who purchased a domain through WordPress who deleted this email for the second verification you write about, that might be welcome (an approach where users seek to complete a verification minus emails looking like phishing). FYI, my domain (whatbeautifullight.com) appears to be fine now, so not clear what more is needed. Thanks.

Thanks so much for your feedback!
I definitely understand. We did add some documentation about this to our support page:
And we are actively working on getting these new emails to look more like what you expect from WordPress.com and we hope to have a solution for this up and running soon.
@blogster520 – I don’t see any domain registrations on your account. However, the email address you posted (which I have removed) is associated with a domain on another account, so you will need to verify your email if that is your account/domain. Let me know if I can help you with sorting this out.
@kamshed – It looks like your email address has been verified and you’re good to go! :)
@rsdowens – Since you have not verified your email address, your domain could be disabled. I’ve gone ahead and resent your verification email. I understand your hesitation, but due to new regulations there is no way for us to waive this requirement.

Shawn, that addition of the snapshot of the email that you just added to the support page likely can address the legitimate concerns most users have about email that appears to be phishing. Thinks for doing that, and I’ve completed this.
