This is the third time I've asked for help on this – unsubscribed
-
I’ve been unsubscribed from 4 more of my friends’ blogs. Can someone please finally resolve this issue?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
And the URLs are?
I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
-
Thanks, and yeah it automatically checks the box for me, so I’m subscribed. Here are the blogs I was unsubscribed to, although that didn’t seem to help solve anything last time:

I figured, although the last time I posted 6 or 7 links to blogs I had been unsubscribed to, their answer was “well you’re subscribed now so what’s the problem”. Well the problem is I keep getting unsubscribed to the blogs. Then I was told it must have been someone hacking my account. So I changed all my passwords, went through using a new email account – which by the way now means that ALL of my comments on other blogs are placed into moderation and my friends are asking me why – and voila, it’s still happening. Still being unsubscribed to pretty much every blog, week after week.
-
Oops, here’s another one ! I just re-subscribed to this blog for the 4rth or 5th time. I hit the Follow button just a few days ago, now I’m unsubscribed again.

Hi Emmy,
I just wanted you to know that I’m looking in to this and as soon as I have any information for you, I will let you know!
-
Hi again,
After looking through our records, it looks like every time an unsubscribe event occurs, it is from the same IP address which you have previously gone in and subscribed to another blog. Frequently you will then go in and resubscribe to the same blog from that same IP address. This tells us that somehow you are accidentally unsubscribing to blogs on your end.
I spoke with some of my coworkers, and we were wondering if maybe you bookmarked some of your favourite blogs? It so, could you take a look at the actual link which is bookmarked (not the title of the page, but the URL, starting with http://). Does it have “?=unsubscribe” in it anywhere or anything similar to that? If so, whenever you visit your bookmark, you are unsubscribing yourself to that blog. Similarly, if you are going to those blogs directly from any of our emails, you have to be careful not to click the “unsubscribe” link.
Could any of this be happening by chance?

Hi, Amightywp! Thanks for the help!
I can assure you, 100 percent that I am not accidentally unsubscribing from any blogs. The way I read blogs is the following:
1. Click on Reader.
2. Choose posts I’m interested in.3. Now, until recently I have simply clicked on the post title to visit the blog. However in the past month, the Reader has changed so that clicking on the post title merely takes me to another Reader page, instead of the actual blog page I want to read. I asked WP staff how on earth I could get to my friend’s blog pages, and she said I could click on the little clock (for example, it might say 2h with a little clock symbol next to it and it takes me to the blog). Otherwise, I sometimes use the links from my Blogroll to directly go to the blogs I want to read.
None of those have an unsubscribe button anywhere near them. I have blocked all email, and do not read RSS feeds. The ONLY place I visit blogs is directly from the WordPress pages.
Not to mention the fact that I’d have to have had some kind of complete brain disintegration to have unwittingly unsubscribed from blogs 20 – 30 times in the past 6 months. That would be some kind of world record for ditziness.
If it is from the same IP address, is it then possible that as they said before, my blog is being hacked? I changed email passwords, I even deleted my old email address (for various reasons) and began a new one.
And if so, why the hell would someone want to unsubscribe me from blogs? Am I the only person in WordPress history who this has happened to? Isn’t there any possible other explanation?
Worth noting that whenever I have had a blog hack (it has happened once to me) and / or a load of spam, it has (ironically) been after I asked a question on the forum. I’ll get a spate of visitors (6, 7, 8 in one day) from Israel, Russia, Pakistan, Spain, Maldives……seriously, I’m not blaming WP forums but that is when weird stuff begins to show up in my Stats folder.
Just a heads up, in case that helps. Also – one clue I mentioned before, is it normal to have a Follow button on my own blog, even when I’m logged in?

ps Also I did not get notified of your last informative comment / post, just FYI. Not sure why, the box was still checked to notify my email when I got answers.

No, there is no need for you to create a new thread. I apologize, I have been out of the office, however I am back now.
To answer some of your questions: No, there is no record of this having happened in quite this way before. We also have no indication that there is a glitch on our end since we are not getting any other reports of this happening. It also does not appear to be someone hacking you, as the unsubscribe appears to be occurring from the same IPs as other activity on your blog (such as subscribe actions).
It’s important to note that it is quite easy to unsubscribe to blogs via the Reader or on a site. In the Reader, just below the site’s title is a checkmark and the word “Following.” If you touch that (if in the mobile app) or click on it (if on the site) then you will be automatically unsubscribed. It looks like this:
-
Hi amwp, thanks so much! First of all I am very relieved it’s not likely a hacker! I’ve been on WP for 4 years or so and have always used the Reader so I’m sure I’m not hitting unfollow.
A friend of mine said Cookies helps WordPress remember who I subscribed to. We have cookies blocked. Could this be part of the problem?
-
Also I imagine the unfollowing would be rampant if it were that easy for someone to click on. I’m very slow and deliberate when I click on links.

Our site relies on cookies (and in some cases, third-party cookies) in order for it to work correctly. You can read about cookies and third-party cookies right here:
If you have all cookies disabled on your browser, then there could indeed be some troubles for your entire account. While we don’t use a cookie to store the sites which you are subscribed to (because then the site would just be remembered on that computer), we do use cookies to remember your session; which could affect all sorts of additional things.
You may want to at least try enabling cookies in this case to see if this resolves the problem for you.

@janedow443j, I’m not sure what you’re subscribed to, but all of our emails contain unsubscribe links. You can click on it and you will be unsubscribed that way.
