This Mature thing
-
I don’t do pornography in my weblog. I write frank, though and I often use nude photography/art/cartoons in articles, columns and poetry. I also want to feature a longrunning and mainly satirical series on Man & Nudity in movies, sports, comix, classic paintings and so on. But a lot of internetpeople want to send you to hell the moment they see the very words ‘bare’ and ‘undressed’. How do I put my blog on ‘Mature contents’? Even though I also feature postings that could be viewed by adolescents, I don’t want to take any risks. I’ve had censorship troubles enough as it is because most weblog providers are scared to death of complaints.
Do you? -
Just go to your blog and in the upper right-hand corner you’ll see a button which will allow you to report the blog as Mature. Do that, indicating that it’s your blog and you would like it to be put in the mature category.
Do I live in fear of censorship? No.
-
If censorship isn’t the issue, I’d rather keep it the way it is and not create extra visiting barriers. So what should I do? Venom columns I publish elsewhere and I also have no intention to place, for instance, pica’s of Britney Spears waxed partybeaver. Haven’t gotten over the nightmares yet.
-
Ignore the haters. If you’re not in violation of WordPress.com terms of service, you’re not in violation. But be aware that nudity could well incite other people t report your blog as Mature, and that call is up to the staff at WordPress.com. I’ve been reported, appealed, and got un-Matured. That’s between you and staff. I wouldn’t call that proposed content Mature, but they might.
-
I’ve read the t.o.s. I’ll leave the decision to the staff, then, when it comes to it. If it comes to it. Thanks for the info, raincoaster.

(1) Generally speaking, nudity on a blog does not upset me. I believe there are times, places and circumstances where lack of clothing is appropriate.
(2) I do however draw a line of distinction between erotic art and tawdry cheescake/beefcake masturbation poses. I consider the latter to be “porno” and I loathe it.
(3) Depictions of “porno” (see: 2) and /or sexual activity involving one or more beings on a blog that lacks any prior warning to readers sets me right off looking for the “report as mature” button.
(4) Depictions of any kind of violence either actual or “pretend” on a blog when combined with “porno” and/or sexual activity sets me right off looking for the “report as mature” button.
If any blogger has (2), (3) or (4) on their blog and has not reported that blog as “mature” to staff and I happen to click into their blog – I will report it immediately to staff.
Please keep in mind that the decision is left to staff but, staff are not called upon to make a decision unless or until a blog is reported.

@vanbleautenbil – make your blog. When you feel is does represent what you want to build, send a support ticket (not a spam report, it goes to a different queue) and we’ll discuss it then.
And we don’t send people to hell :) -
@Mark, I’m a digital Goofy, I’m in hell already. Every day.
So far my new blog has remained quite decent. But- there are columns with (semi)nude pics of Daniel Radcliffe in the play Equus, David Beckham promoting in the raw his eau-de-toilette (a true spermkiller by the way, don’t buy it!), there are scandalous pictures of Michelangelo’s Sistyne Chapel because I found out to my delight that the old rascal has left something very naughty on one ceilingpanel that generations of popes and a zillion nuns have overlooked (or didn’t understand), plus some bare buns on display of -gasp!- Homer Simpson.
And it will get WORSE… So I decided to put the blog in Mature mode myself. -
Oh god, I post stuff like that every damn day! Photobucket even took down my God and Adam Michaelangelo picture because Adam had a weenie, and I just reposted it at WordPress. And I had the Daniel Radcliffe pic up last November! I really wouldn’t worry about posting major works of art or publically distributed, mainstream advertisements.

Agreed.
-
I think you’re worrying about nothing, the content you’re talking about is harmless, timethief has a good rule of thumb guideline above.
-
If it’s Playboy type pictures, that’s considered mature. If it’s FHM type of pictures, that can get by okay.
-
Photobucket sucks. Unfortunately more and more hosts are leaning towards over-moralism, and mainly because of pressure from sponsors. ‘Family values’ and all that jazz. Like internet is for children and no one else. The Mature restrive is a bogus mode, of course. Just a matter of *click*, and any 3-year old can do that.
On the other hand, you cannot blame providers for trying to avoid lawsuits and damage claim. Cases like the ‘Brokeback Mountain’ scandal in America I follow with interest, that’s what most of my columns are about.
Thanks for the support, peops -
it isn’t so easy to say what is mature and what is not, something that could be “mature” to me, could be a normal thing to someone else…
No sé si alguno de aqui hable español, por lo que esto es probable que no lo entiendan, mi blog es un blog en español, con contenido variado, y un lugar apartado para mayores de edad, a proposito, como hago para saber si mi blog fue marcado como “mature”? (I don’t know if anyone in here speaks spanish, so I’m not sure if this is going to be understood, my blog is a spanish content blog, with mixed content, and a place for adults, btw, how can I know if my blog has been marked as “mature”?)
-
Re: mature labeling
If you are unsure about whether or not your own blog has been labeled as “mature” you can speak to staff help during support hours by using the blue “support” link on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page. -
-
domo mark…
@timethief… i know about that link, it was just that i saw this post and want to take advantage of it, not to bother the staff with another question on their mailbox :)
-
@keikurono
Good thinking. ;) And the bonus is that no bloggers posted anything quarrelsome to the thread before Mark’s response was posted, which goes to prove that staff do monitor these threads. :)
