This service seems redundant. What do I do with mysite.wordpress.com?

I already have a self hosted WP blog, hcgdaddy.com. Jetpack was installed by my host and it said if I wanted it to work on my blog I had to sign up at wordpress.com.

Okay, but what am I supposed to do with this extra blog I don’t need at hcgdaddy.wordpress.com? Forgive me if I’m a noob, but I don’t get it.

I certainly do not wish to maintain two copies of the same blog. But, I liked some features of Jetpack so I’d rather not have to uninstall it and delete my WP.com account to solve this.

    Thank you,

    Mark

Do not delete! Deletion is irreversible.

When you sign up at WordPress.com there are two options: one “Gimme a blog” and one “No thanks, just a username.” You evidently chose the one with the blog instead of the username one, a common mistake. Just set the WP.com blog to private; it’s useful to have a blog to tinker with themes and widgets. If you’re certain you don’t want the blog, and don’t want anyone else to use that URL ever, then you can delete it on the Tools page.

Make sure you’re on the dashboard of the right blog before you delete it.

    Hi there,

You don’t need a WordPress.com blog to use Jetpack, just a WordPress.com account. You can either keep the blog and set it to private as suggested by raincoaster, or you can delete it per the instructions at:

    Delete a Website

As timethief pointed out, deleting a blog is permanent! You need to be very certain you will never want that blog or URL before you delete.

    Best!
