“This theme does not support this screen”

  I’d like to update the theme for my site, but I get the message “This theme does not support this screen” when I try to “preview with my content,” since I am currently using the very old Radcliffe 2. What is the best way to transition to a new theme and editing system given this error?

  The error “This theme does not support this screen” is appearing because you are trying to jump from Radcliffe 2 (a “Classic” theme) to a modern Block Theme using the old Customizer, which are technically incompatible for live previews. Since drcourtneylewis.com is currently built on an older system, the most stable way to transition is to use the Site Editor (Gutenberg) rather than the “Preview with my content” button. You should first go to Appearance > Themes, find a modern theme like Twenty Twenty-Four, and click Activate directly; once active, your content won’t be lost, but you will use the “Editor” menu (under Appearance) to rearrange your headers and footers using blocks. Because this is a major structural shift, I highly recommend creating a Staging Site first—which you can do in your WordPress.com settings—allowing you to build the new look in private without your readers seeing the “mess” while you learn the new block-based editing system.
