it looks like the import process, run a second time after updating image references in the database, copied the media in wp-content/uploads/ to http://forwardtoyesterday.files.wordpress.com/. so maybe what works, starting with no content on the target, is to import with image references to the source server to populate the files site; delete all posts on the target;change image references in the source to the files site; and finally import again from the target.

Hi there Bob,
So I’m not sure your problem resolved, but you do need to keep your .org and .com installations both running in order to properly import everything.
Are you all set, or do you need some more help?
Cheers!
