This wordpress.com arrogant attitude
-
Sometimes I lost my patience and the WordPress attitude of changing the interface of the editors (web and app) it’s one of them. I just upgraded the Android app to discover that the “read more” button disappeared. WordPress says it’s not used that much. I’m not so sure, as I use it a lot. Maybe other users also use it often. I don’t know. The point is, someone at WordPress come with the idea, and there it goes.
This isn’t a new attitude. When the new editor was introduced, the users were forced to use it, even if several functionalities were missing. Again, the WordPress expert decided no one wanted them. Fortunately, the new editor was so slow that WordPress made a half step back and gave the users the option to choose. But not happy with that, changes to the editor are being done anyway, such as the disturbing pop-up to edit the links. Worst, the changes in the editors are not coherent, with different ways of doing the same thing, depending on being on the html mode or not.
Sometimes, the users complain, but usually it’s useless. WordPress has decided, so it’s decided.
Nowadays, the editors are being clearly targeted for users not so familiar with IT. We see this by the choices always for the simplest, without the option for more capabilites. And it would as easy as having an option for the user to choose the desired complexity level. But, who cares about the users?

This is the way it is with so many things.
Arrogance seems to be the watchword with the way YouTube rams changes down users’ throats…same with other Google things…and the self-hosted version of WordPress often changes things that make things worse for users. And then let’s talk about the Macintosh OS, IOS, etc. where so many good features disappear, only to be replaced by things that no one wants.
A small cabal of insiders decide what’s best for users, and no matter how much users complain, the insiders just move ahead to the next fiasco.

Another annoyance in the newest Android app: it makes the posts full of non-breaking spaces ( ).
