Thoughts on comparisons of themes
-
Here’s my model: http://thepioneerwoman.com/
And here are the ones I’ve managed to find that appeal:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/delicious-magazine/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/
http://theme.wordpress.com/credits/plugfarming.org/
http://theme.wordpress.com/credits/seedtosalad.wordpress.com/
http://theme.wordpress.com/credits/129twigandvine.com/
http://themorningafterdemo.wordpress.com/Anyone have any experience with the above? Anyone have any opinions on which might come the closest to what I’m trying to do?
I’m essentially putting together a community ‘magazine’, for activism and involvement and inclusion. Unfortunately, I’m told I can’t do on WP.com what she does on WP.org far too expensive, and needs a webmaster to keep the balls in the air. But what I wanted for the site was clarity from the start: section buttons as she has, and easy highlighting of articles etc, beneath. I want some zip, as most ‘community’ blogs are borrrrrrrrring. (I don’t mind paying the Premium price, as well as the Custom Design Upgrade.)
Thanks in advance.

You’ve linked to examples of Delicious Magazine, Twenty Eleven, Bold News, Fresh & Clean, Koi, The Morning After.
“Highlighting of articles etc” is possible in all the above except Koi, plus in several other themes.
“Highlighting of articles” via a posts slider, as on your “model”, is possible in all the above except Koi and The Morning after, plus in some other themes.
“Section buttons” in the top menu is possible in all the above as well as in all other themes that have a top menu. -

FYI: I had originally begun to explore all this here:

(Yes, I was cranky.)
