Thousands of subscription emails!

  I am getting thousands of random auto-generated emails adding me to subscriptions. My email is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  Please disable all new subscriptions ASAP!

  Hi yankees368!

  There are a couple of settings you can change to stop notifications to your email address.

  First, determine what types of notifications you are receiving. Are the subscriptions from other users trying to follow you, requesting for you to follow them, or notifications from WordPress.com?

  Second, go to My Site –> Settings –> Notification Settings. Under each tab, you can select what notifications you receive and under Reader Subscriptions, you can elect to not receive any emails from blogs you are following on WordPress.com.

  To me it sounds like these are coming from a self hosted WordPress site. What is the URL in the email? Our software will redact the email address but Staff can read it anyway.

  Are the emails coming from the same FROM address, or from different ones? Any email that is generated by our WordPress.COM system will come from a @wordpress.com address. If that’s not the domain showing in the email address, then emails aren’t coming from wordpress.COM and you need to post to http://wordpress.ORG/support for help.

  @yankees368 I don’t see thousands of these coming from our servers, but I do see a couple. Blocking email from us wouldn’t help with the overall issue. Sadly, it seems someone is trying to harass you by sending subscription emails.

  The subscriptions aren’t confirmed til you click the link, but that doesn’t stop them from signing you up on multiple sites. Hopefully they’ll get bored soon, but in the meantime, consider looking up any filtering options your mail provider offers, and enabling those for the time being.
