Thread for Volunteers: test, ask, practice, and more…

@musicdoc1 the instructions for inserting images are right below the forum reply box:
You may use these HTML tags and attributes:
<img src="" border="" alt="" height="" width="">As you and @csabarakasz have understood, you have to use “straight” quotes when inserting images, not “curly” quotes.
You should be able to insert the same images mentioned under the Accepted File Types support doc, so
- .jpg
- .jpeg
- .png
- .gif
Hope that helps! Cheers!

Thanks! I had never read that info below the forum reply box, and if I had I wouldn’t have deciphered within it instructions on how to add an image to a forum post. Perhaps I’m a little slow. Also, it seems that my training has taught me to ignore fine print, except in legal documents.
I was thinking that it might be helpful, especially for novices like myself, to add there (below the forum box) a link to the Beginning HTML support page. But I soon realized that the needed instructions regarding images weren’t easily found there. A couple of problems: 1.) The “Images in HTML” section is on page 2 of the support page, or in the “View All” version of the page, and 2.) There is no functional link to that section of the support page in the tables of contents on either page 1, page 2, or in the “View All” version. I plan to address the tables of contents issues in those support pages in more detail in a separate topic.
More helpfully the HTML Tags section of the Code support page refers us to a W3 Schools page “for more information about how each of these HTML codes can be used.” So perhaps we could provide links to those pages as well, below the forum reply box.
Cheers!

Hi everyone,
Recently it happened a few times that I was trying to respond to someone a second time and my post would not show up. If I try to post again it says I already said that. Is it possible I am caught in the spam? I wonder what would be the reason for that, especially if I have already been responding in that thread. Here is an example: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/reset-wordpress-site-2/
Also, I added the
volunteer in spamtag when this happened. Is that the right thing to do in these cases? Thank you! -
@csabarakasz Make sure to add MODLOOK to that thread so that Staff can come and check and fish you out if your replies have gone to spam. Cheers!
-
-
@csabarakasz – we don’t really monitor that tag on its own, so please also use
modlookif that happens again. With that said, you weren’t in spam so it was likely a caching issue on your end. I’ve had it happen where I submit a reply, it doesn’t show up even after a refresh, so I submit it again, then I end up with two identical replies.
Again, if it happens again, just modlook the thread and we’ll take a look.
-
Thank you for your response helper-heroponriki.
It actually happened again. Here is the thread.
I posted my response but it didn’t show up. I went and cleared cache on my device (iPad OS). I tried posting again and I got the ‘you have already said that response’.

-
Would you be able to share the full text of the reply, the next time that happens, on a text page on your site?
I wonder if you’re hitting any blacklisted words.
-
Here is the text from this time. (I actually saved it just in case this would happen).
-
Hm, yeah there’s nothing in there that would have been blocked.
It could be caching on the spam queue is why I don’t see it now. I’ll take another look at my end of day in about 5 hours, maybe it will appear by then.
One recommendation would be to try this comment next time with just the bare URLs pasted in, rather than linking them to words.
-
Well thanks for checking anyway staff-blorbo. If it happens again I will also try using a different device, see if that would help.

In the last half-hour I’ve submitted two posts, one in the topic Morning After Theme – Reg and the other in this topic (describing the first incident), which failed to appear. Submitting a second time in each case produced the error message
ERROR: Duplicate reply detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!
-
It appears your replies have been marked as Pending for some reason. I have no idea why that might be happening, but I’ve reported it internally.
For future reference, forumshelp is the better place to report something like this :)

Thanks. : )

I’m not sure which something you refer to. @csabarakasz had reported here, just above my posts, multiple incidents in which he’d encountered failure of topic response posts to appear, with the “you’ve already said that” error message. That’s the only reason I added my similar example. When that failed, I had two examples to share.
If you mean the retired theme access issues that I describe in my (pending) response in the Morning After Theme – Reg topic, I’d been planning to bring that up in Forums Help as well, but only after helping the OP in the topic first.

@csabarakasz, @musicdoc, can either of you make a test response here with several links (more than two at least?)
