Three Years Later: What The Heck?

So a friend asked me about hosting a blog, so I suggested WordPress.com. I haven’t used WordPress.org in a couple years, and WordPress.com in even longer, but because the interface hadn’t changed all the years I was with you guys I thought it wouldn’t be a problem.

    And well, it is.

My friend became instantly confused by the new Dashboard. He couldn’t find the options he wanted, and I couldn’t help him either. Eventually I decided to log into this old account and was also super confused. I discovered the WP Admin link, sent it to him, and instantly he understood everything. But the link doesn’t show up on his end, so he decided to give up on WordPress. I hunted through your blog and found the post where you announced this garbage: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2014/12/16/dashboard-update. It’s been 1 and a quarter years. How has this not gotten any better since then?

I guess I’m really just shocked that you made such a change that seems, to me, redundant at best and malicious at worst. Why did you do this? What was wrong with the superior, tried-and-true interface you used for the previous decade?

Also why can’t my friend even find the WP Admin link? It literally doesn’t show up for him. I logged into his blog’s management interface and it showed up for me, but he sent me a screenshot and it wasn’t there on his end. That was the deal-breaker for him.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Good evening,
The WP Admin link is harder to find for new users these days, but once your friend bookmarks the link provided below, he shouldn’t have an issue using it again. Is his blog the jkmartindale account you’re currently using? If so, he should follow the link below and save it:

    http://jkmartindale.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

If his account uses a different username, all he needs to do is replace your username with his. In other words, replace the bolded, underlined text below:

    http://

      hisusernamehere</ul>.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

I hope that helps! He should be able to access the old interface from there.

Oh my! That second URL doesn’t look pretty at all. Let me try that again, using only bolded text next time:

    http://hisusernamehere.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    That should fix my issue.

Grr…I did not append the URL at the bottom. Another annoyance I don’t need today. The URL is actually lightstudiosgaming.wordpress.com. Pretty disappointed about requiring a bookmark, but I let him know in case he chooses to come back.

I hope he does choose to come back! This is a wonderful community. =)

Here is the link that will enable him to edit his WordPress site:
