Thumbnail for Facebook share not working
-
The thumbnail for Facebook share is not showing on k9ratpack.wordpress.com using Twenty Sixteen. I have followed the documentation at https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/ and I can’t figure out what is wrong.

This is interesting. I just shared the direct path to the image as it is in the media folder and that posted the image to Facebook. I would use the featured image if I could float it so that the text wrapped but I have so little control on a free configuration.

We have no control over the images that Twitter, Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.

Sorry timethief but that is not correct. Here is the meta tag that I don’t seem to have access to fix. <meta property=”og:image” content=”https://s0.wp.com/i/blank.jpg” />
This is according to the facebook debugger. -
Does WordPress.com utilize Facebook Open Graph? That’s what’s used to generate these images/link previews.

@elevatorium, exactly! According to the Facebook debugger the og meta tag is there but I don’t seem to have access to it using the Twenty Sixteen theme. I am wondering if it is specific to the theme or specific to using wordpress.com. I usually do very custom design so this is an interesting exercise in minimalism, a freebie for a friend. I am hoping that this share is fixable because this is a show stopper for me if I can’t share from the page and get the image to show.

Good news. I just ran a test on a second site with Twenty Twelve theme on wordpress.com and the image showed up. So this is apparently theme specific issue with Twenty Sixteen.
Thanks all.
